BOXING HISTORY IN MACAU, CHINA

On January 26, 2008, the Venetian Hotel and Casino in the Peoples Republic of China, Macau (located near Hong Kong), played host to an historical boxing event. This area of the world had been flirting with the idea of producing an epic boxing show for some time.  Some of the top boxing promotion companies had bid on the project, and Ringside Boxing was chosen to produce the televised event.

The Main Event featured WBF International Heavyweight Champion Derric Rossy (17-1-0) taking on former World Heavyweight Champion, and former Olympic Gold Medalist Ray Mercer (35-6-0). They competed for three separate sanctioned Titles, going 12 rounds:  The WBF International Title, WBC Asian Boxing Council Heavyweight Title, and Pacific Boxing Council/WBO/NABO Heavyweight Titles.

The Main Event was quite exciting, with Rossy and Mercer both trying to gain status in the Heavyweight Division.  The Co-Main Event, a girl fight, featured Shanghai, China's WIBA World Middleweight Champion, Wang Ya Nan taking on top-rated Janaya Davis from Stone Mountain, Georgia, U.S.A.  This bout was even more exciting than the main event.  Also on the card were four other matches featuring local fighters from Hong Kong and Macau.

The show was broadcast live to an audience of 180 million homes in the Chinese market.  Then, a tape-delayed broadcast was shown to over 90 million homes in the United States, Canada and Internationally.

The event marked the first time in the history of Macau that a worldwide boxing event had been produced for television.  Ringside Boxing was honored to be the first American production company to bring a worldwide audience to Macau.
