By using 4:2:2 sampling and a 3.3:1 compression ratio, DIGITAL-S captures and re-produces incredibly high  color resolution, and is visually free from the annoying artifacts often associated with other economical digital formats. To capture all this rich data, DIGITAL-S uses a 1/2" metal particle tape, which even has  the extra capacity required for broadcast quality HDTV pictures, coming in the near future.
